🍫✨
Ingredients
-
200g plain flour
-
200g granulated sugar
-
100g unsalted butter (melted)
-
50g cocoa powder
-
1 medium egg (optional for binding)
-
2-3 tbsp milk (if needed to bring the dough together)
-
Extra granulated sugar for sprinkling
Directions
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 160°C (fan)/180°C/350°F.
Line a rectangular baking tray (roughly 9x13 inches) with parchment paper.
Mix the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the plain flour, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder.
Pour the melted butter into the dry mixture.
Mix well until it resembles damp, crumbly sand.
If needed, add 2-3 tablespoons of milk to bring it together without making it sticky.
Add the Egg (Optional) - If using an egg, beat it lightly and mix it into the dough to bind it more firmly. This helps with a denser crunch.
Press the Mixture
Tip the mixture into the lined tray.
Using your hands or a spatula, press it down firmly to create an even, thin layer (around 1cm thick).
Bake the Chocolate Crunch
Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
It will harden as it cools, so don’t overbake.
Remove the tray from the oven.
Immediately sprinkle a generous layer of granulated sugar over the top for that classic crunch texture.
Cool & Slice
Let it cool slightly in the tray, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled and firm, cut into triangular slices or rectangles, as shown in your image.

How to Store Your Old-School Chocolate Crunch
Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days to keep it crisp and fresh.
Refrigeration: While not necessary, storing in the fridge can make it even crunchier. Keep in an airtight container to prevent it from absorbing moisture.
Freezing: For longer storage, freeze slices in a sealed container or freezer bag for up to 3 months. Defrost at room temperature before serving.
Re-Crisping: If it softens over time, pop it in a low oven (150°C/300°F) for a few minutes to restore its signature crunch! 🍫✨
